Have you ever met an an attention vampire? Someone or something—maybe even some piece of technology that seeks to derail your focus and drain your life force?
It was during the time of the Linterget Troll Festival when the mysterious pyramidal object that would be later known as “The Mystifier” arrived in the town of Crow in the land of the Southwestern Bellows. For the first few hours, the object projected weird imagery, completely mystifying the town's residents. Then at midnight when the folk were in a mentally weakened state, a hatch in the object opened and a man stepped out. He introduced himself as Chaz Throckmorton and said he needed their attention.
Then he began talking about himself, his technology company, space, and time travel. He claimed to be rich, maybe even the richest person ever. Chaz thought he was funny, and although his witticisms received glassy-eyed stares, he appeared not to notice and continued on, and on, and on about… himself.
So mystified were the residents of Crow, they were powerless to look away. And as Chaz Throckmorton appropriated more and more of their concentration, the town’s folk felt their lifeforce fading.
BEHIND THE VEIL:
I really like the idea of the tech bro vampire and his relationship with the pyramidal object—The Mystifier”. Like our smart phones, it is a multipurpose device. Sure, it can call, text, and provide entertainment, but it is also a home. There is an entire apartment INSIDE the Mystifier. Not only that, but it is also a spaceship, a time machine, and an immortality-conduit powered by human attention.
