Summoner and Scribe Series 8/9
This painting is from my Summoner and Scribe series, which tells the story of Benjamin Tod Mortimer, a melancholy young lad who gives up on his dream of being an author of children’s tragedies to take a good-paying but unsatisfy job as a scribe for a Master Occultist…who specializes in the summoning of demons.
IN THIS SCENE:
…It was getting close to Samhain when Onion Witch commissioned Erie Oldfather and his gifted scribe Benj--now a prisoner--with the task of composing a grimoire of darkest necromancy.
In defiance of his employer, Benj followed his passion and, rather than transcribing the infernal words of a summoned demon, he applied his Art and wrote one of his own stories--a tragic tale called the “Ritual of Tears.” As the Onion Witch read Benj’s masterpiece out loud, everyone, including the summoned demons and the Onion Witch herself, along with her spectral handmaiden, Olga, and her male companion, the cannibal, Bloodmouth Scarman, cried. Even the occultist Erie Oldfather seemed misty-eyed.
While everyone wept at his woebegone words, Benj, author of children’s tragedies, felt an odd sensation welling up inside of him: it was joy.
This concludes my series, Summoner and Scribe. This large painting is now available, just in time for Halloween! All my paintings need homes!
