NEW PAINTING: “Stink Bug” 24x24 Oil on Panel 2026
Greetings Earthlings, here is the album cover that I created for the Portland band, Stinkbug. They are a punk/metal/jazz fusion-inspired prog rock band, all super talented musicians, and if I ever get the chance I would love to see them live.
Guitarist/Vocalist Andy Treister and I had a conversation--mostly space-related--about the visual direction of the album cover and after things started percolating creatively in my imagination, this is what I came up with. I see the character as a Future Human leaving Earth in her own enclosed eco-system, just a girl and her beloved overly large pet stink bug--the product of which was due in part to some toxic waste-related mutation. Because the band is from my hometown of Portland Oregon, I chose to include a few evergreens, ferns, and mushrooms. Her “spacecraft” is inspired by one of those hygge salt crystal lamps you could easily find in a myriad of gift shops on Hawthorne Boulevard. Oh, PDX, how I miss thee!
Anyway this was a fun project and I am super thankful to Andy and Stinkbug for the opportunity.
